Step 2: Defining Your Stressful Issue

Now it’s time to move onto the next step in the process, defining exactly what your issue is.  Some people may have many issues, some will not be clear about exactly what their issue is and some will have something very specific issues that they are very aware of.

If you are unclear, I believe the first step is to make a list of things that are occupying your mental real estate.  If the goal is to be still and peaceful.  To have the ability to focus your attention and engage with whatever excites you, then anything that hinders that ability is a stressor to some degree.

Then of these issues, you need to pick one.  Personally I’d go for the one that has the most emotional pull to it.  But you might like to start with something that is urgent or seems easier to get started with.

Then you can sit down with pencil and paper, your word processor, a dictaphone, a friend or call Tim or I and try to explain the issue.  You won’t get it perfectly clear first time.  Once you do, the issue is halfway to being resolved. 

On the audio below, Tim and I went through the process with our own issues.

Now what would be great is if we could post these issues online and track them through to resolution.  Why this would be so valuable, is that it would enable other people who have either been through the issue themselves, seen other people go through it or can see the problem more clearly and impartially.

So then they are able to show you in different ways to look at the issue.  Then you will find the perspective that helps you see things in a different light and so resolve the issue.

The second reason is more altriustic.  Once you have resolved an issue, why not leave behind a trail and message of inspiration to others who have yet to encounter the problem.  Imagine if there were a place full of trails to problems overcome.  Where people could see that not only are they not the only one to have a problem, but that others have overcome it and how.

Unless you explicitly say, I’ll assume that it’s ok to share the issue and will post it online.  So what will happen is that we’ll have a post (or series of posts) for each issue that will then develop into a road map from problem to solution.
